Tan dun was born in Changsha, Hunan, one of the most famous composers, conductors in China, his art work includes: Classic opera " Marco Polo," "The First Emperor ", orchestral "Death and Fire", folk music " Northwest Suite", soundtrack "Crouching Tiger”, also he is composing music for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. 

 

Tan Dun is the only one people who managed to present Nvshu in music. He used thirteen-movement microfilm symphony to present Nvshu’s culture, daily life and Nvshu’s secret to the world. To finish this artwork of Nvshu, Tan dun spent 5 years to learn, capture and analysis Nvshu culture. What he has accomplished is saved the disappearing culture into music.

 

He states “The slow disappearance of the NvShu tradition and culture has troubled me for many years and each time I return to my home province in Hunan, I always want to passionately take action. I wanted to do the field research, anthromusicology study, collect the songs of NvShu and eventually compose a new symphonic- concerto piece for the world and for my home village, to continue the tradition and to create a future from the past.”
